Brian Taylor: 'It's just first instinct', three quarter time, VFA Qualifying Final - 1992

30 August 1992, North Port Oval, Melbourne, Australia

Scores finished tied at the end of the final quarter. First ever game of extra time footy in VFA/VFL/AFL history.

It’s just first instinct, keep the game flowing, get the ball off, that sort of thing , Dave Lucas doing a fantastic job ... but no job is fantastic unless the bloody game has finished, now Dave big job now, because now’s the time he likes to get out and lurk [inaudible]., so you’ve got to really tighten up. You guys that we haven’t got quite enough from, they’re doing okay, a bit more from Pose, a bit more from Mick Sinni, a bit more from Rees, a bit more from Tommy Keipert and Tommy Shelton, now guys, you guys haven’t given us everything yet, and we’re still in front on the scoreboard. Now if you really give us something here, that is going to give us the opportunity to get into a good situation early, We cannot go fifteen minutes, goal for goal, let them creep back on us. We must get the early one, like we did in that quarter. You know the reward, it’s great enough to be worth striving for.

All year, think back to Walhalla (pre season training camp), how far you pushed yourself mentally,  and physically. You’re not going to go anywhere near that here today. Nowhere near it!
