Rev C L Franklin, Aretha Franklin's father, was one of the famous preachers of 1950s and 60s. he was shot in his home in Detroit in 1979 during a botched robbery. he lay in a coma for 5 years before life support was switched off. Apart from his famous sermons, released through Chess Records, he also was Martin Luther King's favourite preacher, and walked beside him on Detroit's March to Freedom in 1963 (photo above).
